Fields: Photonic nanostructure physics and device applications

Key words: Photonic crystal, Nanolaser, Slowlight, Negative-index optics, Si photonics

Background: Photonic crystals are artificial multidimensional periodic nanostructures, which can be designed by the photonic band theory. They have great potentials for various novel optoelectronic devices due to their photonic bandgap and anomalous dispersion characteristics. In this research group, fundamentals to possible applications of photonic crystals, and their recent topics such as nanolasers, slow light, negative index optics, etc. are studied. Besides, the other competitive photonic nanostructures, i.e. high index contrast (HIC) waveguides and cavities, are also investigated with silicon photonics.
